US BOARD RIDERS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP

2022/23 USBR National Championships May 27, 2023 at Lower Trestles Format/Rules/Judging Criteria

  • Club Qualification (7 total clubs)
Top 3 clubs from WCBR (1st directly to final round, 2nd & 3rd qualifying round). Top 2 clubs from FLBR (1st directly to final round, 2nd to qualifying round). Top 1 club from NJBR and Mid-Atlantic BR

  • Format- there will be two rounds, qualifying round will consist of 5 clubs and top 3 clubs will advance to final round. The final round will also consist of 5 clubs (2 plus 3 from qualifying round). Tag team format with 2 surfers per division (14 & under, 15- 19, 20-29, 30-39, 40-49, 50 & up, Women’s any age). Age as of 5/27/23.

  • Heat Duration- each division heat will be 30-35 minutes in duration depending on conditions. There will be short break in-between each division heat.

  • Wave Max- each team member can ride maximum of 3 waves (or less if they choose) and the best (1) wave will be counted for the team’s overall point total. If surfer rides a 4th wave there will be a 1-point deduction.

  • Rosters- teams must submit their roster order and Whammy Surfer for each division no later than 30 minutes before each division starts.

  • Double Whammy Surfer- each division will choose one surfer to be the “Double Whammy Surfer”, DWS can choose one wave where surfer gets double points for that wave, but surfer must claim it by raising both hands over their head, surfer has approximately 15 seconds after surfer kicks out or falls off to be awarded the “DW” score. Once surfer paddles back out or goes to the beach, surfer can not claim DW for that wave. If the surfer does not raise both hands, surfer will not be awarded DW points.

  • Tagging- at Lowers we will start each heat in the water, next surfer will remain on the shoreline knee deep in water and once previous surfer comes in around knee deep the referee will signal for next surfer to go. Last surfer can finish heat in the water and no point deductions to get back to shore.

  • Judging Criteria- (WSL Criteria) MAJOR combinations of maneuvers and progressive above the lip surfing in the MOST critical sections with speed power flow and control will be scored highly. Each division will have its own scale.

  • Interferences- WSL rules in effect, if called, the surfer who interfered (priority or non-priority interference), their top scoring wave will be cut in half and the surfer that was interfered will have the option to ride a 4th wave.

THE FL CUP MILLENNIUM x BILLABONG

December 10th 2022 was all-time in Central Florida. If you weren’t there, by the time you read this you have probably already seen clips on your social feed or been texted (or called) by a friend who told you all about it. As the sun peeked over the horizon you couldn’t help but hear the catchy riff from the Sandals that accompanied Bruce Brown’s famous 1966 surf film, it was that good.

THE FLORIDA CUP JAX PIER x VOLCOM 2022

It was windy, cold and rainy but full of#RecycleTheStoke ♻️ energy at the 3rd stop of #TheFloridaCup 🍊 presented by @fattire

So much action in the water and on the land. Together the clubs raised $1,000 for @kickflipforacure to help fund research for JDM a disease that effects 2 in 1 million kids.

The Florida Cup "Flagler 2022"

We have said it before but Flagler Beach is one of the coolest surf towns in the world. Unlike most Florida towns there are no giant mansions or condos lining the ocean front. The venue for Sunday's event felt like a natural auditorium with spectators lining the boardwalk and beach. Lead by a strong Open Women's, 30's and 20's the Jax Board Riders Club claimed their first victory of the year and kept their winning streak going.

OUR PROGRAM

The Florida Board Riders is pleased to announce the formation of a grassroots organization meant to brighten the future of surfing in beach communities in the Sunshine State. A staple of surf communities around the world, Board Rider clubs foster fun, safety, self-esteem, ocean and environmental-stewardship, and community engagement for surfers of all ages through friendly competitions and other events.

Are you interested in starting a Board Riders Club in your hometown? Email info@floridaboardriders.com today to find out how. Click here to see all active clubs!

Just as Florida homes are built on strong foundations, the Florida Board Riders will build off the rich history and legacy of surfing in the state. The Florida Board Riders is already working with partners in surf communities throughout the state to establish local chapters. Each club will carry out various mission-aligned events, including contests, charitable drives, beach cleanups, ocean conservation education, water safety training, surf movie nights, and more.

The culmination of these efforts will be the 2020-2021 Florida Board Riders Competition series, which will pit clubs from all across the sunshine state in a team format surf contest. Each club will be represented by the best surfers in all age groups from their respective area.

The Florida Boardriders is a nonprofit organization with a 501 c 3 status. Funds collected by the organization through member dues, partnerships, and donations will be distributed to member clubs to facilitate the main functions of the Florida Board Riders in their local area.
