THE FLORIDA CUP CHAMPIONSHIP 2024

Saturday was one for those days that doesn’t happen to often in North Florida. On Friday, the waves were ankle high till about 4pm then jumped up to overhead Southeast wind slop. The wind turned off shore right at day break on Saturday and quickly cleaned the swell up. For 8 straight hours the waves were pumping and nonstop. Crazy how insane the timing was for this swell.

#RecycleTheStoke - Giving Back to our Local Communities

Florida Board Riders was created to #RecycleTheStoke. Generations of surfers recycling the love of the sport by giving back to their community. We partner with different organizations and host surf focused programs to introduce individuals to the beautiful and healing sport of surfing. Funds collected by the organization through member dues, partnerships, grants and donations will be distributed to the public through Florida Board Rider programing.

See what we have been up to in 2023

Organizations we have partnered with in our first two years include: Surfear Negra  , Heal Foundation , Special Olympics , Boys & Girls Club , Task Hydro Force  , Wounded Warriors ,  surfers Healing , Get A Board  and many others. These programs are our main function while also building strong and healthy surf communities through education and environmental stewardship. Local city surf clubs have had major impacts in their community by carrying out these programs and also raising funds for those in need in their community along with scholarships for surfers transitioning into higher education.

THE FL CUP MILLENNIUM x BILLABONG

December 10th 2022 was all-time in Central Florida. If you weren’t there, by the time you read this you have probably already seen clips on your social feed or been texted (or called) by a friend who told you all about it. As the sun peeked over the horizon you couldn’t help but hear the catchy riff from the Sandals that accompanied Bruce Brown’s famous 1966 surf film, it was that good.

Can you hear those cowbells ringing?

November 19, 2024

It was a Blue Bird Day in Jacksonville
It was a Blue Bird Day in Jacksonville

You can hear it as you walk over the board walk, a constant ringing accompanied by high pitch cheers and sometimes moments of anguish. Noise is a huge part of the Florida Cup events. Whether it is the tasty music blasting from the Red Bull event vehicle or the constant high energy coming from under the tents noise is all around. But, there was one noise that stood out above the rest, that was the consistent cowbell ringing every time a Jacksonville Board Rider stood up on a wave. 28 surfers x 3 waves each equals a lot of cowbell.

Introducing the head coaches for their clubs
Introducing the head coaches for their clubs

For this event we tasked local Jacksonville Djay and long time Rat Town local Tony Prat with covering the event with his disc jockeying skills, photos and pen. Prat-Town as he is known around the beach had never attended a Board Riders event and was suprised at what he witnessed.

Words: Antoine Prat

Tents are up. Teams are picked. Energy level equals 10. The waves and wind are producing a great stage for the Florida Board Riders third stop of the 24’ season.

I get to DJ in the Mad Max style Sound System vehicle. Getting the best view of the whole scene. It’s a beautiful day to have a surf contest.

Let's Go!

Surfing is not a team sport.

WRONG!

The Board Riders contest is such a rad concept. Teams representing their respective regions, one hour heats. double whammy’s, deductions for not being under your tent in time. The drama was all there. Big turns and no makes brought the entertainment factor to the frothing fans and competitors. Even the groms got a chance to shine in the expression session.

All the teams came out with the eye of the tiger. Some ex pro’s even got in the mix.

In the end it was Team Jacksonville who grabbed the winners cup. MVP’s from each team won a pair of Mayport Nike’s and stoke was in the air.

                                                                                              Aloha Everyone,

                                                                                              Until Next Time.

                                                                                              Dj Tony Prat

  • OUR PROGRAM

The Florida Board Riders is pleased to announce the formation of a grassroots organization meant to brighten the future of surfing in beach communities in the Sunshine State. A staple of surf communities around the world, Board Rider clubs foster fun, safety, self-esteem, ocean and environmental-stewardship, and community engagement for surfers of all ages through friendly competitions and other events.

Are you interested in starting a Board Riders Club in your hometown? Email info@floridaboardriders.com today to find out how. Click here to see all active clubs!

Just as Florida homes are built on strong foundations, the Florida Board Riders will build off the rich history and legacy of surfing in the state. The Florida Board Riders is already working with partners in surf communities throughout the state to establish local chapters. Each club will carry out various mission-aligned events, including contests, charitable drives, beach cleanups, ocean conservation education, water safety training, surf movie nights, and more.

The culmination of these efforts will be the 2020-2021 Florida Board Riders Competition series, which will pit clubs from all across the sunshine state in a team format surf contest. Each club will be represented by the best surfers in all age groups from their respective area.

The Florida Boardriders is a nonprofit organization with a 501 c 3 status. Funds collected by the organization through member dues, partnerships, and donations will be distributed to member clubs to facilitate the main functions of the Florida Board Riders in their local area.
